Secondary School - Working to reengage with formal education

Sarah has been employed by the school to work with one of our Looked After Children for two hours per week. Her remit was to form a relationship with this student who was not attending school and to re‐engage her with learning. Through a personalised programme which responded to the needs and interests of the young person, Sarah was able to forge a relationship with the young person and crucially gain her trust. What began as a series of sessions has now become academic tutoring with the LAC engaging in foundation Maths and English so that she will be able to access courses post 16. This is quite an achievement as this student had not been in formal education for a year and had been unable to succeed with any other provision put in place by the school‐including 1:1 tutoring.

Sarah has, throughout the time I have been working with her been completely reliable and trustworthy. She has also been placed in some difficult situations in the course of her work with this young person. She has dealt with these calmly and has diffused situations so that there could be a positive outcome. She has also been fastidious in reporting to school, keeping us abreast of situations and filing useful reports in a timely fashion. She has also adhered to school’s safeguarding policies. Sarah will offer warmth, a caring approach and a passion for making a difference. I can highly recommend her to you.
